Francis Picabia

A Retrospective

Picabia has always been a controversial figure among the great artists of the twentieth century. During his life he opposed any judgmental discrimination between fine art and kitsch, and between conservatism and radicalism. He used his sharp humour and often self-critical approach to question the principles of the modern era. While his artwork from the Dada years is already well-known, there are some surprising discoveries still to be made. On display are some 100 paintings, drawings on paper, avant-garde newspapers, and examples from his work for film and theatre.
