The Art of Contemplation

Italo Calvino and Luciano Berio

Contemplating a wave at the beach can indeed be a philosophical or poetic process. That’s exactly what Mr. Palomar found when one day he decided to take a closer look at the world around him. Palomar was Italo Calvino’s (1923-1985) last work. This slim book is thick with thoughts both abstract and complex, as seen through the eyes of Palomar. Luciano Berio’s musical sequences give a deeper meaning to what is contemplated and written – transporting it into the realm of the metaphysical.
