The Balls

Paradise was ours – Letters 1915-1927

After his early death in 1927, Emmy Ball-Hennings (1885-1948) described her relationship with Hugo Ball (b.1886) as «call and echo». Letters between this extravagant and strong-willed pair, reflecting their creative lifestyle and existential life crises, bear witness to their unusual relationship. Extracts from those letters, songs sung by Hennings, contemporary sounds and noises, recordings of their artist friends, and photos of the two on screen build up a picture of an extraordinary couple, whose work left its mark on European intellectual history.
