Sophie Hunger recieves the Festival Prize 2016

This year’s winner of the Zurich Festspiele prize, sponsored by the Bär-Kaelin Foundation, is Sophie Hunger. Hunger is a young artist who has already achieved considerable artistic success, and with much more to promise undoubtedly has a brilliant future ahead of her. Her voice is utterly individual, her instinct for successful songs unerring; a virtuoso in the field, she masters the music technically, and rallies the best of her skills. On stage, she performs with a charisma all of her own, radiating unusual sensitivity and intelligence. Sophie Hunger is also something of a Dadaist: she’s not afraid to firmly say ‘No’ to much of what we hear today, and is always keen to try out, sing or say something new.
